Floodwater from Angola has caused flooding in the mahangu fields adjacent to the Kunene River following the opening of the flap gates at the Ruacana waterfall to alleviate pressure on the dams.

An aerial view of villages such as Otjamaungu, Otjipahuririo, and Okominyandi has revealed a devastating impact from the floodwater, which has partially submerged several crop fields along the riverbanks.

The villagers are now in a dilemma, as they say they received little rainfall, which affected their crop yields, and the floodwater has dealt them a heavy blow, as they rely only on crop and animal farming for survival.

They also stated that, apart from food supplies, they will also need various forms of support to ensure they do not fall ill from waterborne diseases.
