Ondangwa Magistrate, Simasiku Makapa has denied bail to two sitting SWAPO local authority council members and a former chairperson of the management committee of Oniipa Town Council who were arrested for alleged corruption. The three SWAPO councilors, Mayor David Kambonde, his Deputy Hileni Idhogela, and the former Chairperson of the Management Committee, Thomas Matsi appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate Court this morning. It is alleged that in 2018, the three conspired, and employed a candidate who was not qualified for a position and elbowed out the actual candidate who scored higher in an interview. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested the two sitting SWAPO local authority council members and a former chairperson of the management committee of Oniipa Town Council yesterday. They have been denied bail and the case has been postponed to 7 September 2021.
