President Geingob congratulates Kenya's President William Ruto

President Hage Geingob has congratulated Kenya's President-elect, William Ruto, saying the government is committed to strengthening the excellent relations which exist between the two countries. Ruto, who is the current Deputy President of Kenya, was declared the winner in the 09 August polls with 50,4% against challenger Raila Odinga's 48,8%. The election results were upheld this week Monday by Kenya's Supreme Court, after Odinga and his party lodged a challenge, claiming that the votes were rigged. President Geingob, in a letter to Ruto, says Kenyans have once again demonstrated the vibrancy of democracy in their country. Ruto's victory, he says, demonstrates the confidence that Kenyans have in him to lead the country to economic prosperity and advancement. Kenya is east Africa's largest and most liberal economy with the African Development Bank estimating economic growth at 6,7% in 2021 after a 0.3% contraction in 2020. President Geingob says Namibians continue to be indebted to Kenya's support of Namibia's liberation struggle and the strengthening of bilateral relations following the attainment of independence. The Head of State assured President-elect Ruto of his commitment to work together for the greater good of Namibia and Kenya.
