The public has been urged to refrain from destructive political comments and abusive languages on social media that could derail efforts for peace and unity in the country. Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information, Communication, Technology and Innovation, Modestus Amutse made the call when he addressed the youth in Omusati Region over the weekend. Amutse said despite constitutional provisions, unethical use of media freedom can destroy peace and stability. He also urged citizens to participate in the debate on Access to Information Bill once tabled later this year. Whilst commending Namibian journalists for keeping the nation abreast with timely information, the former journalist blamed some media houses for allegedly being selective and bias in their reports. He warned the public against unfounded information on social media, as some of these are circulating to misguide them.
