Queen Elizabeth, Britain's longest reigning monarch and the nation's figure-head for seven decades has died aged 96, Buckingham Palace said in a statement. The statement said the queen died peacefully at Bal-moral this afternoon. It said the King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow.
