The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) arrested several suspects for dealing in prohibited substances on Friday and Saturday. According to a crime report availed to Nampa on Monday, a 28-year-old Congolese man was arrested after he was searched and found in possession of four grams of cocaine powder valued at N$2 000. The suspect was arrested Cook Street, Eros on Friday and was expected to appear in court on Monday. Police investigations continue. In a separate incident, a 45-year-old Spanish man was arrested for allegedly dealing in 10 grams of cocaine powder, eight blocks of crack cocaine and a quarter moon of crack cocaine worth N$10 500 at Walvis Bay on Friday. Furthermore, on Saturday at Noordoewer, two men aged 23 and 27 years old respectively were arrested after they were searched and found to be in possession of cannabis, mandrax tablets and 70 packs of Yes cigarettes with a total value of N$41 140. Police investigations in the matter continue. A 22-year-old suspect was also arrested in Narraville at Walvis Bay on Friday after he was allegedly found in possession of 20 grams of cannabis and crushed mandrax valued at N$290. The suspect was set to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday and police investigations continue. Meanwhile, NamPol spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, said the police force does not condone the abuse of members of the public as it constitutes a violation of the constitution. This was in response to an editorial by a local newspaper on 6 August regarding a video circulating on social media where members of the public are seen being harassed by NamPol officers. “The unpleasant scenes of the video showing law enforcement officers assaulting members of the public represents extreme ill-treatment, little or no respect for human dignity and therefore are condemned in the strongest terms possible,” Shikwambi said. -NAMPA
