There is no law that prohibits the keeping of large amounts of local currency at home or at a business premise - Zemburuka

There is no law that prohibits the keeping of large amounts of local currency at home or at a business premise, Kazembire Zemburuka Director of Communications at the Bank of Namibia has said. His reaction comes after media queries were directed to his office, regarding the surge in robberies targeted towards foreign nationals with unusually large amounts of cash at their residences. "It is required from a traveller, importer/exporter, or a person mailing conveying by post or courier, to declare cash of N$100,000 or equivalent thereof in foreign currency upon entering or leaving Namibia" Zemburuka says the current law only deals with the Prohibition of Holding Foreign Currency in large numbers and the requirement to sell it back to the bank within 30 days. Concerns have been raised about a Chinese national who was robbed of over a million dollars at his residence and if the law allows a person to keep such volumes of money at home without banking.
