Two suspects shot in attempted armed robbery incident in Cimbebasia

The Namibian Police report that reservists shot two suspects in an alleged attempted armed robbery incident in Cimbebasia at about 07h30 this morning. It is alleged that three Namibian Police Reservists were patrolling a gravel road in the bushy area of Cimbebasia near Michelle MacLean street where two armed robbery cases were reported two weeks ago. During the patrol, while the officers were standing, five men armed with a panga and knife allegedly emerged from the bushes, charging at them. The officers shouted, "police, police". That resulted in three guys running away while two demonstrated no fear and continued charging at the officers. That prompted the officers to fire warning shots, however, the suspects were not deterred and kept coming forward. As a result, they were shot; one on the left upper leg and the other on the right lower leg. The suspects, 22 and 26 years old, were taken to the hospital, reported being in stable condition. A panga and a knife were found with the injured suspects. It is further alleged that one of the injured claimed to be a farmworker in the area and that he was patrolling the area on a horse, however, his claims could not be proven as there was no nearby farm or a horse found in the area. A case of attempted armed robbery is registered against the suspects. Investigations continue.
