The United States signed a memorandum of intent regarding a plan to build a solar power complex of up to 5-GW in Botswana and Namibia. The US government will cooperate with the two countries, the African Development Bank, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation. Once realised, the project Finance Minister Ipumbu Shiimi said will be able to power the region. Shiimi said this in an interview with CNN's news anchor Richard Quest.
