Voting got underway in Kavango West without any hiccups despite a poor turnout this morning. At least 90 polling teams were deployed in Mpungu, Musese, Ncuncuni and Ncamagoro constituencies as well as Nkurenkuru Local Authority area. Residents of Nkurenkuru slowly started trickling to polling stations as early as 06h00. Those our news team spoke to said they wanted to cast their votes early and return to their daily activities. They say they do not want to miss the opportunity to elect their leaders for the next five years. About 3 000 either voter are expected to cast their ballots in the Nkurenkuru Local Authority Elections. The situation is similar in the Musese Constituency as well. SWAPO, PDM and APP are contesting for office. Polling officials hope the voter turnout will improve in the afternoon as crop fields might still attend to their crop fields. First-time voters are excited to be participating in the democratic process. Thus far, all polling stations are ensuring adherence to COVID-19 protocols by ensuring the wearing of face masks and observing social distance.
