The leader of the Landless People's Movement Bernadus Swartbooi has given expelled former regional councillor Gerrit Witbooi seven days to give evidence that he verbally abused him or face legal action.

Addressing a media conference at Keetmanshoop, Swartbooi charged that Witbooi accused him of having used abusive language towards his mother, a claim he strenuously denied.

"I will be strict with the people that are part of the party, I will impose a work program on them, I will impose discipline as a leader, I am part of the team and I am not bigger and more important than the collective LPM, I am also a member of that party, today I happen to be the leader, tomorrow when I am not the leader, I will be loyal and a faithful member of LPM, following whoever will be the leader, therefore I am giving Gertjiet 7 days to provide evidence of me having swore at his mother, if not I will do everything to enforce my legal rights."

Equally, Swartbooi denounced false claims by Witbooi that he was fired for not supporting former LPM councillors in endorsing an alleged irregular appointment at the ||kharas Regional Council.

"The second thing Gertjie keeps on repeating is that a person that was never recommended by the PSC is to be appointed as Deputy Director, which would be illegal, let me put the record straight, PSC has recommended three people for the position of deputy director, finance and administration in the ||Kharas Region Council, three, the rankings are number one, the person that Gertjie wanted, number two, the person who happens to be a woman that we say should be appointed and then there was another one, the person that was a female has 35 years experience, that is one, the PSC rules are clear and the Constitution Affirmative Principles are clear that if a choice has to be made between a man and woman, it falls with the woman."

Witbooi, a former Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency Regional Councillor, who was expelled from LPM, is adamant, he has evidence to prove the allegations he made against Swartbooi.
