Legal practitioners accused of unethical behaviour

The Popular Democratic Movement Member of Parliament, Vipuakuje Muharukua, has raised concerns about legal practitioners who allegedly corrupt debtors to represent them and share part of their winnings once they succeed with a case.

Muharukua was contributing to the High Court Amendment Bill tabled by Minister of Justice Yvonne Dausab.

The bill seeks to give equal rights to litigants' in-house or immovable property repossession cases.

Muharukua also stressed the need to have a Small Claims Court.

LPM's Gerrit Witbooi given seven days to prove accusations against Swartbooi

The leader of the Landless People's Movement Bernadus Swartbooi has given expelled former regional councillor Gerrit Witbooi seven days to give evidence that he verbally abused him or face legal action. 

Addressing a media conference at Keetmanshoop, Swartbooi charged that Witbooi accused him of having used abusive language towards his mother, a claim he strenuously denied. 

CoW accused of mismanagement of Farm Okukuna garden project in Goreangab Dam

Beneficiaries and members of Farm Okukuna, a community garden project in the Goreangab Dam area, are accusing the City of Windhoek of mismanagement since they took over the project.

Established in May 2018, Farm Okukuna was a community-led project, producing vegetables and other alternative forms of farming to feed themselves and other communities in Windhoek. 

Cavema Fishing accused of unlawfully dismissing workers

The Namibia Fishing Industries and Fishermen's Union has accused Cavema fishing of unlawfully dismissing workers.

The union says the Walvis Bay-based company disregarded the recognition agreement signed with the workers.

Disgruntled workers protested at Walvis Bay to express their unhappiness.

The workers claim they were unlawfully removed from payroll and demand that their leave and other benefits be paid out to them.

The workers' union also called out the company for failing to maintain a harmonious relationship with its workforce.

Windhoek Show Society accused of choosing a South African company above a local small business

A local small business's hopes of expanding were shattered after its application to participate in the Windhoek Agricultural Show was disapproved.
 
Lulu Gugushe Pioluc Investments claims the Show Society instead approved the application of a South African-based company.

The company's founder, Lulu Gugushe, complained about the preference given to a South African company at the expense of the locals.
