The Namibia Fishing Industries and Fishermen's Union has accused Cavema fishing of unlawfully dismissing workers.

The union says the Walvis Bay-based company disregarded the recognition agreement signed with the workers.

Disgruntled workers protested at Walvis Bay to express their unhappiness.

The workers claim they were unlawfully removed from payroll and demand that their leave and other benefits be paid out to them.

The workers' union also called out the company for failing to maintain a harmonious relationship with its workforce.

Cavema Fishing is a joint venture between Venier Investment, Comoposatu, and Rainbow Fishing.

The companies recently absorbed close to 650 unemployed fishermen who had set up camp near the Kuisebmond Stadium in the town.
