The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has started with preparations for the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency by-election.
The by-election became necessary, following the expulsion of former regional councillor, Gerrit Witbooi by his party, Landless People's Movement.
The ECN's Control Administrative Officer Thomas Shapi, when addressing stakeholders at Keetmanshoop announced that the supplementary registration of voters will start next week Tuesday and end on Friday.
Those who lost their voter cards, as well as those who have turned 18 years or relocated to Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency qualify to register during the three-day supplementary registration exercise.
There are currently 6 224 registered voters in the constituency.
"Normally what political parties do sometimes, I am not accusing anyone, I am just talking the truth, they don't do their homework, but after the result when things did not go their way, they start accusing ECN while ECN made provision for them to scrutinize every small detail, this provisional voters register is very important for you to make sure that at the end of the day whoever on that list is indeed legal."
ECN has already embarked on a voter and civic education campaign last month, aimed at encouraging people to turn out in big numbers and vote in the upcoming by-election.
