Mukwe Constituency Councillor Damian Maghambayi has called on the residents of Divundu to support the planned blueberry farm at the local authority.

Maghambayi is confident the farm will create much-needed jobs in the constituency and Divundu in particular.

The Councillor's remarks come after some residents of Ndongo Village, which is within the Village Council opposed the development of a farm.

Maghambayi says the about 50 hectares blueberry farm could create more than 200 permanent jobs for the community.

He said thousands of more temporary jobs could also be expected during harvest and pruning seasons.

Maghambayi says the Divundu Village Council and the investors from South Africa are dealing with compensation issues saying some of the affected residents have already received payment.

He accused some villagers of frustrating development initiatives in the constituency.

"This blueberry project will create employment because the majority of the people that are here, normally travel to Aussenkr for employment, if you go to Auseenkr now the majority of them are from this village and this must also go to the ears of everybody that there those that are adamant to block development in this constituency for reasons only known to themselves".

Maghambayi says several meetings were held with the Hambukushu Traditional Authority and villagers and the majority of them supported the project.

But some villagers are suspecting the investors are trying to steal their crop fields without adequate compensation.

The investors are expected to commence with the development of the farm next month.
