The death of the |Hai-|Khaua people's Deputy Kaptein Stephanus Goliath has set in motion a number of mourning rites as per the tribe's traditional customs.
Goliath who died on the 10th of March was 78 years old.
The family spokesperson, Johan Frederick, in an interview with nbc News gave a rundown of traditional rites that kick in when a tribal leader of the |Hai-|Khaua clan dies.
"The morning fire as we called it, some traditions called it the Holy Fire, was lit on the 19 March indicating the official mourning period for 40 days, the mourning period will end on the 23rd of April 2023."
Since the death of Kaptein Goliath, mourners have been gathering at his residence at Berseba Village in the ||Kharas Region to pay their respects.
Late Goab's wife Elizabeth Goliath, though saddened by the death of her husband, pledged to carry on with his role of unifying the |Hai-|Khaua people.
"Unity among us is very important, God also wants people to forgive each other, whether brothers, sisters, couples, family or a nation."
