The Director of Education for the Kavango East Region, Fanuel Kapapero, has retired.
Kapapero has been in the education sector for more than 20 years and rose through the ranks, first as a teacher, then as Head of Division, and was later promoted to Regional Director of Education in the Kavango East Region in 2017.
In his farewell speech, Kapapero encouraged staff members to serve the region selflessly, warning that being too proud can destroy education.
"I have served the region with humility because it's very important to understand why serving with humility is very important and why you need to be a servant yourself if you want to be served."
The farewell event was also attended by Kavango East Governor Bonifatius Wakudumo and Rundu Mayor Gabriel Kanyanga.
Vaino Peter, the Uvungu Vhungu Combined School principal, thanked Kapapero for his many years of service on behalf of the region.
"I would like to wish Mr. Kapapero a happy retirement. He has been a good leader in this region. He has made a tremendous contribution to our region, so we wish him all the best."
Frans Bernado, a Grade 11 learner at Dr. Alpo Mauno Mbamba Secondary School, spoke on behalf of learners across the region.
"I would like to thank and appreciate Mr. Kapapero for all that he has done for us, and I would like to thank him for being a very wonderful leader. I pray that the Lord may protect him in his future, and I wish him a very prosperous retirement."
