The Richelieu Eagles beat Canada by 111 runs in their final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifier play-off at Wanderers Cricket ground on Tuesday.

In their final match of the series, the Richelieu Eagles won the toss and chose to bat first.

Knowing that they might still mathematically sneak into the top two positions on the log, the Eagles needed to win their match against Canada and hope that other results go in their favour in the final matches to be played today.

The host put up a decent total of 267 for the fall of nine wickets and set Canada a target of 268 to win the match.

Canada lost their first wicket in the fourth over and by 26 overs, the visitors were six wickets down as the Namibian bowlers kept picking wickets.

By the 38th over Canada were in big trouble as they had 153 for 9 and needed a further 115 runs to win the match from 11.4 overs.

In the end the Richelieu stifled Canada as they were all out for 156 in 42.2 overs to give Namibia their third win of the series.

The Eagles' 111 runs win was built on the brilliant innings of 83 runs off 107 balls by man of the match Shaun Fouche.

On his part, captain of the Eagles Gerhard Erasmus said he was happy that they could end with a win.

The Captain of Canada Saad Bin Zafar praised the Richelieu Eagles for their performance.

Having won their last match, the Richelieu Eagles are now hoping for a bit of luck from the other results if they are to end in the top two teams to advance to the final World Cup qualifying tournament set for Zimbabwe in June.
