The Chairperson of the Keetmanshoop Municipal Management Committee, Johannes Vries, has called on the Keetmanshoop residents to make use of the MTC outreach campaign to register their sim cards.

The mobile operator will be in Keetmanshoop for three days.

Given the high rate of cybercrime, voluntary sim card registration comes with security benefits as it helps to prevent identity theft and phone-based fraud.

The national SIM card registration was launched by CRAN last year.

"Our office is in the CDB, and people are roaming around here; this is a very fast process, and I am encouraging our local residents to come forth and register. You just need your ID; come with your ID and register, as it takes only five minutes at most, but this is a very good thing."

MTC will have a number of registration points in all 14 regions as part of its campaign to register over two million customers.
