Zones A and B were mostly left in the dust by zones C and D at the Khomas Regional School Athletics, which were hosted at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek on Tuesday.

The Khomas Primary Schools Regional Athletics championship took place today, seeing zones C and D outshine zones A and B in track and long jump.

Officials from zones C and D were quite pleased with the performance of their learners - especially given the fact that most of them come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Official Zone C Ripangurua Mavenjono said "Our learners are doing well. Most of these learners are running barefoot, but they are not deterred, but their circumstances. I am also impressed by the parent turnout today because our learners from under privileged communities and the parents do not have the time attend such functions"

The event was hosted in preparation for the national athletic championship, which is set to be hosted from 29th to 30th April.

"What is being hosted here is the Khomas regional athletics in preparation for the national athletics championship coming up this month. The parent turnout somehow disappointing as they do not take things like sports seriously" Petronella Katjatenja the a vice president of KSSR said.

Khomas High Schools are set to battle it out tomorrow for spots on the regional team.
