May Day has come and gone, but the world will continue to celebrate the economy's builders.

These come in different packages, some of which are constantly on the move, keeping the nation updated.

The work of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc), in reaching out far and wide, has not gone unnoticed by the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU).

This year, the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW) took its celebrations to the coastal town of Swakopmund.

Companies and institutions showcased their services, from health care services to law enforcement, Namdock, a leader in the ship repair market, specialising in marine and industrial engineering, packaging companies, and emergency services.

Close to five hours of activity were caught on camera by the nbc's "Team No Sleep", who used skill to capture each story-telling shot.

Thanks to its forward-thinking leadership, the nbc's Digital Section has made information and news updates accessible to all, with geographical country borders no longer an impediment.

"The nbc plays a very big role in making sure that what happens here is disseminated to all Namibian citizens abroad because everything is live. Thanks to our national broadcasting corporation. Thanks to the employees of nbc and thanks to the leadership of nbc," said Erastus Nevonga, NAPWU General Secretary.

It was an enlightening event filled with education and reminders of the importance and rights of workers and their contribution to the country's development and economy.

Veteran historians and trade unionists reminded the current generation of the difficulties workers faced during the colonial era as well as their role in the betterment of Namibia today.
