Lüderitz residents celebrate hosting Miss Namibia 2024 pageant

Overjoyed by the just-ended Miss Namibia 2024 pageant, residents of Lüderitz expressed their appreciation to the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation for choosing their town to host the prestigious event. 

An expression of interest by the Luderitz Waterfront Company culminated in the southern town of Lüderitz being granted the honour of hosting this year's coveted Miss Namibia event.

nbc defends against NaCC's anti-competitive allegations

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has fired back at the Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC), labelling the regulator's proposed findings of anti-competitive conduct as "dead on arrival."

This follows the NaCC's accusations that the nbc has been limiting market access for other free-to-air broadcasters on the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Network.

MURD, nbc sign MoU

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) and the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development (MURD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding whereby the nbc will partner with the ministry to ensure professional and reliable communication.

This agreement reinforces their longstanding relationship and commitment to delivering quality information to the public.

EFN rules in favour of nbc against OTC

The Editors Forum of Namibia (EFN) has ruled in favour of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) in an appeal case in which the Ovambanderu Traditional Council (OTC) accused the broadcaster of directing its Omurari FM presenters not to use the title of Ombara Otjitambi in reference to their chief, Aletha Nguvauva.

The OTC claimed that the decision infringed on their rights, including the freedom of expression and the right to self-identify per their customs.

NFA/NBC MOU: NFA, NBC Partner for Unrestricted Football Coverage

Following a period of administrative disputes, Namibian football is poised for a strong comeback.

The Namibian Football Association (NFA) and the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and held a follow-up meeting to solidify their commitment to promoting football development in the country.

The MOU, signed on March 28th, 2024, paves the way for unrestricted broadcasting of all football activities in Namibia, including the top-flight league, lower tiers, and cup matches for both men's and women's divisions.

The nbc Assures comprehensive coverage of late President Geingob's memorial and funeral services

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Director General, Stanley Similo, says the national broadcaster is ready to provide coverage of the memorial and funeral services of the late President Hage Geingob.

Similo made this remark during an update on the national broadcaster's readiness for the memorial and funeral services.

The Director-General says he has confidence in his teams and is positive that the national broadcaster will successfully cover the events.

Trustco & nbc reaffirms delivery of exceptional entertainment

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) has reaffirmed its partnership with Trustco in delivering exceptional entertainment to its viewers by bringing back the Trustco Winna Mariba show. 

The history of Trustco's Winna Mariba spans nearly two decades, commencing in 2003 when Trustco Group embarked on an innovative journey by introducing SMS competitions. 

The Director General of the national broadcaster, Stanley Similo, welcomed the reintroduction of the show, saying it will contribute immensely to the production and broadcast of local content.

NBC secures rights to broadcast AFCON

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has secured the broadcast rights for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) football competition scheduled to take place from Saturday, January 13, 2024.

The NBC will broadcast all 52 games on television as well as through the newly launched app, nbcPlus (available on Appstore and https://nbcplus.na) while radio will broadcast 46 out of the 52 games.

nbc apologises to Patrick Swartz and Central Procurement Board

On December 31st, we ran a year-in-review, which recapped some of the stories that made headlines in 2023.

One of the stories featured was the awarding of what came to be known as the "condom tender" by the Central Procurement Board of Namibia, in which an insert of the former Board Chairperson Patrick Swartz was erroneously used.

In the insert, Swartz emphasised the board's mandate during his tenure, which ended on March 31, 2022.

Although the insert used reaffirmed the principles of the board, he was no longer part of the procurement when the programme aired.

Kaisames gospel show slated for Sunday

The popular Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) radio station, Kaisames FM, continues to be active in the community.

This time around, the station will host a gospel festival in Windhoek's Zoo Park Amphitheatre on Sunday.
