Police in the Kavango East have spearheaded Operation Genesis with other stakeholders to monitor and control activities across the border.

Acting Regional Commander for Kavango East, Deputy Commissioner Eino Nambahu, expounds on the purpose of the operation.

"Joint Patrol which is aimed at the riverside and border is a joint of stakeholders. That is from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Safety and Security, NamPol, and Correctional Services, we are one wing."

Furthermore, Deputy Commissioner Nambahu explains how crimes are committed at ungazetted entry points.

"Just after 15 km of cruising we came to this place, at this village called Mutarandja that is in Namibia and Ndirawu the other side of Angola. So what you see behind me here, this is an illegal port of entry, it's not legalized and they are using canoes to cross to our country,"

However, there are points designated for crossing especially for humanitarian assistance.

"We have set up points which we call humanitarian grounds where the community can pass under the control of the police or supervision of the police and the department of immigration has also put up registers to monitor the movement of those that need assistance."

Dr. Thompson Shuro, a State Veterinarian in the region, explained to nbc News that if one plans to import animal products from across the border for incidental reasons then one has to apply for a health certificate.

This is meant to prevent, detect and control animal diseases.
