ASEZ WAO, a local environmental forum, takes the lead in responding to climate change and examines climate disaster cases, seeking solutions to environmental problems.

The forum held its meeting in the capital to discuss ways to better deal with climate change under the theme "Are you doing well in responding to climate change"?

Global warming is the biggest issue facing mankind. The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere reached a new high last year.

Rapidly increasing greenhouse gases sharply raise the global average temperature, resulting in extreme weather changes that are occurring all over the world.

It is a situation that would lead to disaster, and ASEZ WAO drew attention to it by providing a forum for public discussion to seek solutions to the climate change crisis.

Emma Muteka, the Councillor of Windhoek West Constituency, says not only does ASEZ WAO advocate for climate change, but she also highlights the involvement of young people in combating climate change.

"At times, we are good at putting policies in place, but when it comes to implementation, it seems to become a problem. So I'm really praying that we take this issue very seriously, especially Namibia, seeing that we are a dry country. That we start taking steps towards planting more trees and taking recycling more seriously. We are also reviewing our policies and making sure that they speak to the current situation that we are facing. Most importantly, perhaps from the government side, we should look into the possibility of a green budget so that we can kick start with this."

The environmental forum focused on the "Green Workplace" project to practise environmental protection in the workplace, where young office workers spend most of their time.

This looks at activities that respond to climate change by practising power saving, saving water, and saving money by turning off unused monitors and power strips, using the stairs, using a bicycle to commute to and from work, and using individual cups.

"We had an opportunity to realise that we really need to take care of the environment for the future generation. We need to look into the issue of recycling to make sure we don't litter the environment. We also realised from the statistics that were presented by the presenters that there is little recycling taking place. So I would like to ask everyone to really think about recycling. And we hope that in COW with the project that we are currently doing, we hope that in the near future, all residents in Windhoek are going to be doing what we call sorting at source, which is basically recycling at the household level," said Paulus Kandjimi from the Education & Research Division of the City of Windhoek.

Participants signed letters of support for ASEZ WAO activities, pledging to carry out activities that protect the environment.
