The Swapo party is now urging all its members, sympathisers, supporters, and the general public to exercise patience and understanding.

In a statement, the party says it acknowledges the significance of the matter and assures Namibian citizens that it will approach the issue with the utmost seriousness and consideration.

The Supreme Court has ruled that the Ministry of Home Affairs' approach of excluding same-sex couples from the definition of "spouse" for immigration purposes, as stated in Section 2 of the Immigration Control Act, violated the rights to dignity and equality protected under Articles 8 and 10 of the Constitution.
