Swapo Party Member urges campaign for majority in November elections

Swapo Party Politburo and Central Committee member, Lucia Witbooi, has urged party members to campaign for an outright majority in the November national elections. 

She made the call at the opening of the ||Kharas Swapo Party regional executive meeting in Keetmanshoop.

Witbooi further encouraged all eligible voters to re-register to participate in the upcoming elections.

Swapo to seek legal advice on Supreme Court's ruling on same-sex marriage

The Swapo Party President, Dr. Hage Geingob, says the party will seek legal advice on the Supreme Court's ruling regarding same-sex marriages conducted outside Namibia.

He was speaking at the Party's Central Committee meeting in Windhoek today.

The Supreme Court ruling mandated the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety, and Security to acknowledge same-sex marriages performed in jurisdictions outside Namibia between citizens and foreign spouses.

The Swapo Party Politburo has decided to refer the recent judgement of the Supreme Court on same-sex marriage to the Central Committee for further deliberation and decision-making.

Swapo yet to express itself on same-sex marriages

The Swapo party Regional Coordinator for the Kavango East Region, Ottilie Shinduvi, says the party has not made a definitive stance on same-sex marriage.

Shinduvi made these remarks during the SWAPO Party Woman Council's annual activity plan cluster workshop held in Rundu.

She emphasized that the government has not permitted same-sex marriages to take place.

Shinduvi pointed out that misinformation on social media has led to misunderstandings among the public.

SPWC holds Central Committee meeting in Outapi

The Swapo Party Women's Council (SPWC) Central Committee held its meeting at Outapi.

Officially opening the meeting, First Lady Monica Geingos also launched the Swapo Party Women's Council Research and Advisory Cadre Committee.

Geingos explained that members of the SPWC Research and Advisory Committee are expected to lead by example and ensure the Council produces high-quality research for women to take informed positions and decisions on complex issues.

Swapo Central Committee elects new office bearers

The Swapo Party Central Committee meeting has elected new office bearers to serve the party in various portfolios for a five-year term.

Peya Mushelenga has been elected as Secretary for External Relations, while Veikko Nekundi has been elected as Secretary for Defense and Security.

Bernadette Jagger grabbed the Economic Affairs Secretary position, and Lucia Ipumbu became the Secretary for Finance.

President Geingob calls on Swapo Party members to desist from spreading rumours

The Swapo Party Central Committee held a meeting in Windhoek on Saturday. In his rather brief speech, President Hage Geingob called on party members to desist from spreading rumors.

The meeting was to elect leaders for various portfolios.

Swapo Party Central Committee gathered for their first meeting for the year, where both the party's veterans and new blood displayed their camaraderie spirit.

Before his opening address, the Central Committee members observed a minute of silence in honor of two traditional leaders who died this week.

Swapo Party Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the just-ended verification and subsequent announcement of the Central Committee results are evidence that the Namibian nation is in good and capable hands.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at the closing of the drawn-out verification and certification process, commended all party members, particularly those who worked tirelessly around the clock since the start of the congress on the 25th of November.

The Swapo Party's 7th Elective Congress, however, did not have a smooth ending.

Swapo Party concludes verification, certification of CC election results

Several SWAPO Party heavyweights finally made it to the list of the Central Committee after the conclusion of the voter verification and certification process in the early hours of Saturday.

This includes Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, who did not appear on the first list but is now in the top ten of female candidates.

The newly elected top four leaders ordered that a verification process be carried out after an error was detected during the counting process for the Central Committee election.
