The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation opened the four-day Omaheke Employment Creation Conference in Gobabis, reiterating the government's commitment to employment creation.
While urging stakeholders to join efforts in ensuring that young people are equipped with the necessary support to be employable, Nandi-Ndaitwah also highlighted agriculture as one of the key areas that should receive support, as it responds to the demand for employment creation.
The aim of the Omaheke Employment Creation Conference, held under the theme "A Regional Approach Towards Employment Creation," was to address key issues and strategies that will unlock employment opportunities.
"When this conference concludes, let's not forget the commitments that are going to be made here."
The Minister of Industrialization and Trade, Lucia Iipumbu, emphasised that it is crucial to prioritise grassroots development as a means of creating regional employment opportunities.
"All these efforts will stress the importance of our combined state effort and stakeholders to address the challenges of unemployment and also to translate our economy into a strong and mainstream economy that would assist our country to grow from one level to another. This conference should serve as a testament that the region has identified its vision and developed ideas, and the region is going to make a trend that will enhance the capabilities of its citizens to ensure that all effort benefits the citizens of the region."
Also speaking on the occasion was the Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council, Ignatius Kariseb.
"The significance of this event cannot be overstated. Youth unemployment is a challenge faced by nations across the globe. However, behind this challenge lies an immense opportunity for growth, innovation, and progress. The energy and potential of our youth and young people are unparalleled. By harnessing their talents and providing them with the right tools, mentorship, and opportunities, we can pave the way for a prosperous future."
A seed capital fund was also launched at the event with the aim of providing support to young individuals interested in venturing into diverse business opportunities.
