Namibia and Zimbabwe signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the areas of agriculture, industrialization, human capital, and local governance at Gobabis.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of Provisional Affairs and Devolution of Zimbabwe, Tafadzwa Muguti, emphasised that the agreement also focuses on social development.

"As much as we promote exports, it is also beneficial to society; we need to have our own industries each time we import or export; we need to ensure what we are importing is adding value to our economy; and if we ensure what we are importing has been value-added, failure to do so is exporting jobs, which is exporting employment opportunities for our children, and this should never be appropriated."

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate echoed the agreement, saying it will support various community projects in both countries.

"The dream of a united Africa is not far away; we should work towards attaining it, and the time is now. Therefore, as the centre of our region, economic success should be the goal of building a new, fast-growing, more inclusive economy. We should be reminded that the challenges of poverty, unemployment, and inequality will only be effectively addressed through a higher level of inclusive economic growth. This is why the call for immediate implementation of this MoU is of paramount importance."

The Zimbabwean Ambassador to Namibia, Melody Chaurura, as well as the Omaheke Regional Council Chairperson, Ignatius Kariseb, also witnessed the signing ceremony.

The signing ceremony of the MoU concluded the visit of a delegation headed by Muguti after a week-long benchmarking visit in Omaheke.
