NOROS Fishing has assisted with the rehabilitation and drilling of boreholes in the Omaheke Region.

The Fishing company spent N$500,000 in two different villages in the region.

Speaking at the handover of the borehole at Kalpan village in the Epukiro constituency, the Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Sylvia Makgone, applauded the company for improving the livelihoods of the community.

Makgone also added that the government alone will not address underdevelopment.

"With this donation, you have shown not only compassion but that you have the country and its people at heart. Thank you for sharing your caring attitude despite the economic difficulties that the fishing industry is going through."

The company made a promise to assist the rural community when it received the fishing quota.

"We should prove ourselves to the ministry as NOROS, as we promised that we would plough back into the community, so we identify problems, and we heard that Kalpan is having water problems. We came twice to assess the situation, and then we decided to convert diesel to electricity with the help of CENORED. We removed all the old pipes from the borehole, bought new pipes, and bought everything as NOROS," said Patricia Tjaronda, the Director of NOROS Fishing Company.

Epukiro Constituency Councillor Packy Pakarae thanked the company on behalf of the Omaheke Regional Council.

A resident of Kalpan Village, Turi Murise, said the boreholes will improve the quality of life in the community, adding that buying diesel to pump water has been a thorn in the flesh.

Kalpan village has more than 60,000 households and more than 2,000 livestock.
