The more than N$71 million Onkumbula Police Station was inaugurated in the Oshikoto Region.
Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo stated that the construction of such infrastructure is a true reflection of the government's commitment to enhancing safety and security in the country.
Thirteen members have been deployed at the station, which is equipped with two 4x4 pickups.
The station comprises a charge office with five offices, a boardroom, Pol-seven, and Pol-ten, an armoury room, radio and server rooms, a kitchen, and ablution facilities.
Additionally, the structure is furnished with a cell block featuring three holding cells, a doctor's consulting room, bedroom flats, a fuel service station, and barracks with 20 rooms.
"I must emphasise that while the government continues to play its role in providing the necessary infrastructure and resources, it is the duty of all Namibian citizens to maintain peace and stability through their active involvement in special policing programmes that are aimed at enhancing safety and security in our respective communities."
Lieutenant General Shikongo, while commending the men and women who voluntarily joined the police in the fight against crime, emphasised the need for the establishment of neighbourhood watches, youth against crime initiatives, and police reservists as part of the community policing philosophy.
"I am therefore certain that the aforesaid community involvement will obviously ensure that communities will make a difference in enhancing their own safety and security. This will undoubtedly boost their community's confidence in the work of law enforcement, which may result in more citizens coming out and reporting criminals and their activities."
He then took the opportunity to urge police officers deployed at Onkumbula Police Station to demonstrate a high level of commitment, maintain discipline, and adhere to the police codes of conduct as outlined in the police administration manual, Chapter 11.
There are currently 760 police officers in the Oshikoto Region.
