After years of operating in tents to combat crime in the area, the Omatako Valley Police Post made up of prefabricated units, has been inaugurated in the Tsumkwe Constituency of Otjozondjupa Region.

The building was unveiled by the Namibian Police Inspector-General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo.

The N$750,000 structure consists of a Charge Office and accommodations for seven police officers.

"The government will continue to do its best to develop an effective policing service in our community by providing sufficient resources in spite of the economic challenges that our country is facing. The Namibia Police Force, therefore, in its quest to ensure that all people living in Namibia and visitors are enjoying peace and tranquility, has made budgetary provisions to extend law enforcement services to all parts of the country and also to improve some of the existing facilities to ensure that effective and efficient services are provided to all people within Namibia," said Shikongo.

Speaking at the event, Otjozondjupa Regional Governor James Uerikua commended the police for their strides.

"The Namibian Police and all the security clusters have indeed put in place systems and processes that have led to the apprehension of those that have been found to be wondering. They have been doing their job through sheer dedication and commitment, and they do that through selfishness. They tend to do their job with the minimal resources at their disposal, and I am happy for you, my dear brother Inspector General, on how you are actually having a grip on the police force and how best you are distributing the minimal resources at your disposal in ensuring service delivery."

Also speaking on the occasion was the councillor for the Tsumkwe Constituency, Johannes Haufiku.

"This is indeed a special day because what we are witnessing here today is the government's commitment to bringing its services to the people. It also indicates that our Government intends to address matters relating to the welfare of men and women in uniform as well as communities in this area."

A Land Cruiser was handed over to the police post for patrols, and an amount of N$14,000 was raised for the creation of the men's and women's network reservists' assistance, as well as donated furniture.
