The Creative Facilitator at EduVentures says they have made great strides in taking environmental education deep into remote rural area schools.
Fernando Filipe said this at the launch of the Ombombo Mobile Classroom, a first of its kind in Namibia with its six-tonne truck, which is rolled into a classroom.
"Right now we are sitting inside the Ombombo classroom. The name derives from the Otjiherero word meaning butterfly. That's because of how the truck is designed; it's a bit wider; it's not normal for a truck like this, so we open it up like a transformer, and when we close it, it becomes a normal-size truck."
Filipe says schools are welcome to contact EduVenture to request a visit from the Ombombo Mobile Classroom at no cost.
EduVentures was started in 2003 as an educational and data-gathering initiative of the National Museum of Namibia. Its overall objective is to sensitise Namibian school learners to topics related to the environment and sustainable development.
