Namibia has the potential, through solar energy, to generate sufficient power for its domestic needs and could also play a pivotal role in supplying energy to various parts of Southern Africa.

Renewable energy experts agree that the country is blessed with an abundance of natural sunlight, estimated at some 3300 hours, a resource increasingly regarded as the new gold.

To promote awareness about the significance of solar energy, Young Africa Trust Namibia is conducting information sharing sessions in the ||Kharas Region, engaging with local community members. The objective is to contribute to and enhance the development of the burgeoning Namibian solar energy sector. The project is dedicated to executing a series of meticulously planned education, training, and awareness initiatives. As part of its outreach campaign in Keetmanshoop, community members are given the opportunity to witness demonstrations showcasing the functionality of solar energy and its relevance to both rural and urban communities.

There are a lot of aspects when it comes to solar energy in the minds of the community, so what we are doing is educating them, showing them the product, and also asking those who have solar systems that are not working how we can revive them and make them work again because people, when they think about solar, look at it as a bad thing because they don't have much education on this. So the community of Keetmanshoop really showed interest when we were in town, and they are really coming up and asking questions, so this is the good part of it, and we see that there is really a need for this kind of project to be implemented.

Young Africa Trust Namibia is a local Non-Governmental organisation that runs self-reliant training centres.
