The mother of a 14-year-old rape victim has accused a state prosecutor at the Rehoboth Magistrate's Court of misrepresentation.

Prosecutor Frank Tjibeba did not oppose bail in a matter in which a minor was allegedly raped by her former stepfather and subsequently became pregnant.

Tjibeba, during court proceedings, put it on record that "The complainant has filed a bail statement indicating that she has objections to bail and thereafter indicated that bail may be guaranteed with strict conditions. We thus concede to bail and propose bail of N$3000.00."

The distraught mother, however, says that Tjibeba's version to the court was misleading and devoid of any truth, saying that the prosecutor informed her that courts sometimes grant bail even though there might be an objection to it, further advising her of the possible bail conditions in the event bail is granted.

The minor was allegedly raped at Rehoboth in April this year by her former stepfather after he allegedly bought her alcohol.

Questions sent to the Tjibeba via WhatsApp have not been answered at the time of this publication.
