Alexandra Scheepers Makes History in Long Jump, Lodewikus Viljoen Shines in Shot Put

Namibia celebrates its first gold medal victory at the ongoing World Schools Sport Games in Rio, Brazil as Alexandra Scheepers soars to success with an impressive height of 1.67 meters in the Long Jump event.

In another remarkable feat, Lodewikus Viljoen achieves a personal best (PB) distance of 13.10 meters in shot put, further adding to Namibia's achievements on this international sporting stage.

Representing Namibia School Sports Union, these talented athletes are proudly flying their nation's flag at the games which will conclude on Sunday. Accompanied by two officials, a total of four Namibian athletes are participating in the second International School Sports Federation World Schools Games held in Rio de Janeiro.

The competition has already seen three athletes partake in various events including heats for the 100-meter sprint, long-distance running, and long jump. On the opening day of competition, Liezel Mwiza Munyaza competed valiantly but did not qualify for the finals with her time of 12.71 seconds during the semi-finals of the 100-meter race. Similarly, Alexandra Veronique Scheepers fell short from qualifying in long jump while Lazarus Kakishi Manyima secured fifth place during his heat for the 800-meter race.

With several more events remaining throughout this under-15 tournament that commenced with an inspiring opening ceremony last Saturday and is set to end on August 27th; our team is eagerly anticipating their participation in discus and shot put disciplines.

Stay tuned as we continue to support and cheer on our exceptional young athletes representing Namibia at this prestigious global event!
