Swapo Party Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on party members and supporters to protect the country's hard-won independence as the country heads for next year's national elections.
She made the call while addressing the party's rally at Keetmanshoop.
"Yes, 2024 elections are coming, and we must be ready for that, we must be ready. The fact of the matter is that former liberation movements in Southern Africa are under persistent, aggressive and calculated attacks by those who want to reverse the gains of our revolution. Now they are seeing that we are starting to get hold of our natural resources and make them accessible and benefit our people, and the only way they can stop it is by unseating the liberation movements, we should not allow this to happen in Namibia."
Moreover, Nandi-Ndaitwah called for unity and discipline within the party.
Quoting the late former Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere, Nandi-Ndaitwah says corruption must be treated as treason.
"We can not allow corruption to continue in this country because when you're corrupt, you're preventing resources from serving the people, and in the process, you're making people revolt. In other words, when you're corrupt, when you're not doing things properly, you want people to revolt and throw out the government. That cannot happen, comrades."
Furthermore, Nandi-Ndaitwah reminded inhabitants of ||Kharas to position themselves to benefit from opportunities in emerging industries such as green hydrogen, oil, and gas.
Swapo Party Secretary General says a series of rallies will be held in preparations for the 2024 national election.
Sophia Shaningwa also reiterated that Nandi-Ndaitwah is the party's sole presidential candidate.
