On Thursday morning, some Goreagnab Secondary School  learners received shoes from the Operi and Sydney Child Foundation, in conjunction with the Frankie Fredericks Foundation.

The learners were Identified at the Nedbank City Dash, which took place last week.

Operi Tjipuka, one of the founders of the foundation, who also took part in the race, noticed that the learners had no proper running shoes but still did not lack determination to finish the race.

SB: IN…there was one athlete and unfortunately I can't remember her name, very tiny, she ran so well infact she even ran faster than me, we were doing a 10 kilometer and I was still on my way the turning point of the 5 and she was already on her way back , but what stood out for me she had shoes like almost like Katrina's shoes, at some point she stopped and took then off, and started running with them in her hands and it told me that she was so determined to finish though her feet where uncomfortable that's what made me try and find her and as God says when you find one you find more…OUT

The "principal of the school, Caroline Nafuka, expressed her gratitude and appreciation, believing that is a new opportunity for both the learners and the school.

''It's not a common thing, for someone to just see where there is a need and you decide to led a helping hand, so we really appreciate you our donors.''

Some of the learners who received the shoes were excited and thankful.

Tjipuka explained that being a former athlete herself helped her understand  the situation and take up this initiative.
