The Cape Town Walking Football Tournament has issued an invitation to Namibian football legends to participate in the event, scheduled for the 24th and 25th of November.

Invited to the tournament, the Namibian Legends are summoning their best team to play football at a strolling pace with no running permitted.

The majority of the players in Namibia's new sport, which focuses on improving people's health, are former footballers over the age of fifty.

Speaking about the value of the recently introduced sport with an emphasis on the elderly was James Links, chairperson of Namibia Walking Football for Health.

''We have seen how 50 years old still run like horses, kick like horses they don't have the platform to do so, so we are creating an opportunity for this guys to remain active even at home.''

An Executive Member of Walking Football For Health Namibia, Bryan Isaacks, discussed activities that will be a part of the tournament while also spotlighting the individuals who are qualified to play for their side.

''That will be 6 aside football, 6 aside run and 11aside tournament game. We have invited old players to come join and be part of the team. But any other players who are interested because we are still selecting the  team.''

Additionally, Isaacks pointed out that the competition will provide a chance for South Africa to choose a team that will participate in Europe.

The team said that while they are eager to be part of the tournament, their only current issue is a lack of funding as the sport is still relatively new.

Members of Walking Football for Health Namibia will stage a social tournament at the end of September at the Western Suburbs sports field in the capital.
