Parents with children attending Kanyumara Primary School in the Kavango East Region, located 90 km east of Rundu, have taken the drastic step of preventing their children from attending school until further notice.

This collective action follows their allegations that a male teacher at the school consistently practices corporal punishment, causing distress among the students. According to concerned parents, this issue has been a source of worry since 2016. They contend that, despite raising the matter with the relevant authorities, they have received no response or resolution. Frustrated by the lack of action, they have now decided to keep their children at home.

Their primary demand is the removal of the teacher in question, and they have vowed not to allow teaching and learning to resume at the school until this change occurs. Parents claim that, according to their children, the teacher selectively assesses some students' work, leaving others in the dark about their academic progress. This has raised concerns about the fairness and quality of education being provided.

Furthermore, parents assert that some teachers at the school also feel uncomfortable with the situation.

When contacted for comments, the Inspector of the Ndiyona Circuit, Pontiyanus Kamunima, declined to provide any statement on the matter.
