The body of Simukusi Michael Libongani, who is suspected to have gone missing while fishing in the Liselo area, has been retrieved. The 59-year-old resident of Lisikili was reportedly attacked by a hippo on Tuesday night. Libongani's body was retrieved on Wednesday after a police search.

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Heather Sibungo, was at the scene during the search. While conveying a message of condolences to the family, Sibungo stated that the ministry would assist with the funeral arrangement.

She also cautioned residents to stay clear of the river banks.

The ministry's officials were ordered to put down the problematic hippo; however, officials have since not succeeded in this mission.
