The two LPM council members and a senior member of the Karasburg Town Council were each granted bail of N$1000 by the Karasburg Magistrate's Court.
Karasburg Mayor Maria Veldskoen, Town Council management committee member Fransiskus Skeyer, and acting CEO Hansina Isaacks were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) investigators on alleged corruption charges.
Each suspect was given permission by Magistrate Samingo Kasaona under the condition that they not interfere with witnesses and the ongoing investigation into the matter.
Each of the suspects faces two counts of corruption: abuse of their office or position for gratification and conspiring to commit a criminal offence.
The charges relate to the alleged appointment of Isaacks as acting CEO of Karasburg Town Council and their alleged changing of the council's banking signatory rights.
