The 46th Annual Damara Cultural Festival has given business owners at Okombahe, a settlement in the Daures Constituency, a financial boost.

Due to an influx of cars and people, the gravel roads were watered to limit dust.

The usually quiet streets were populated by stalls stocked with food and other traditional products for sale.

Sanna Namases is one of the locals who decided to grab the opportunity and set up a stall.

"We are preparing Oryx meat for the festival of Okombahe Gaob fees, and we are inviting everyone to come and support us, the small businesses, as we are starting. It's a great help for us; it's supporting us to put bread on our table for the children and everything because there is no work. But it's helping us a lot."

Teenage boys also took advantage of the opportunities presented by the festival to earn some money and learn valuable lessons on entrepreneurship.

12-year-old Ama Tsuseb brought eggs from his parents' farm to sell to revellers, while 11-year-old Roberto Tjongarero's choice of product was grilled meat.

The festival further presented an opportunity to tailors who created colourful traditional outfits worn by the Damara clans and sub clans, displaying and celebrating their heritage.
