The US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, says the relationship between Namibia and the US can be diversified through various means beyond the new compound.

She made the remarks during the official opening of the new US Embassy after three years of construction.

The US and Namibia have enjoyed friendly relations and strong partnerships over the years.

These include combating HIV and AIDS, trade, and other areas of economic development.

Over the last eighteen years, the US has invested over N$28,4 billion into the HIV/AIDS programme through PEPFAR.

US Ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, sees this partnership expanding.

''partnerships to empower women and youth, who are the powerhouse behind Namibia's economic growth. Partnerships to strengthen inclusive democracy, protect the environment, and, of course, our long-standing partnerships on public health. ''

The International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, while expressing gratitude to the US government for excellent bilateral cooperation, pointed out that Namibia is looking forward to the US partnership in its drive towards green transition and leveraging recent oil and gas discoveries, among others.

She also highlighted the importance of the two countries in the promotion of global peace.

''For us to work together to ensure international peace and security as well as encourage dialogue and negotiations in solving international disputes. All human rights are equally important, interdependent, and mutually enforced. We don't want to see innocent lives being lost as well as random destruction of property as we continue to see in Gaza.''

The construction of the embassy not only created over two thousand jobs for locals, but workers also received training in finance.
