Senior citizens in Hardap Region have expressed appreciation for a lunch treat and food hampers, an early Christmas gift from the Hardap Governor's Office.

The Hardap Governor's Office hosted 820 elderly people at the Elders Day held at Mariental.

The elders were spoiled with a manicure, haircuts, and hair blowouts.

Putting on dancing shoes, the golden oldies also showcased their dancing skills to gospel and Namastap music.

In his address, Hardap Governor Salomon April called on the senior citizens to continue instilling moral values of respect and harmony in the youth.

''It is a divine assignment to elders from God to admonish and to unite.  Call us back. Let other people's children not be killed in front of houses while you are just sitting and waiting for it to happen. It is the elders' responsibility for us to have a healthy society. Do not get tired of reprimanding; do not get tired of saying don't; that is the only responsibility to still have before departing the earth'

National Planning Commission Director Obeth Kandjoze and Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele also graced Elders Day and shared their seasonal greetings with the elders.

The lunch was sponsored by various corporations, government ministries and agencies, and individuals.
