With schools set to open next week for learners, the Otavi Constituency Office will be buying school uniforms for the less privileged.
The majority of school-going learners in Otavi, especially those in primary school, are from less fortunate families.
Preparing for back-to-school is therefore a daunting task for many parents.
It is against that background that the Otavi Constituency Office initiated a back-to-school programme.
George !Garab is the Councillor of the Otavi Constituency.
"We bought school uniforms to the tune of between N$6,000 and N$7,000 last year for the benefit of Otavi Primary School and the Harambee community. This year, we are aiming to provide shoes for Shalom Primary School and Kombat Primary School. We really are seeing the need for our children who are going to school."
With a number of mines operating around Otavi, !Garab says children do not have to go to school with torn uniforms or barefoot.
He says the little that the Otavi Constituency Office is doing needs to be supported so more learners can benefit.
The councillor is thus urging the business community and others who have the means to assist school-going children.
