Navigating the educational landscape proves to be a formidable task, as Windhoek schools grapple with a shortage of classrooms.
With schools reaching maximum capacity, classrooms now have to accommodate between 44 to 50 learners.
In the face of this challenge, parents raised concerns, seeking answers from the Ministry of Education about the measures being taken to address this pressing issue.
Reinhold Haludilu, a teacher at Immanuel Shifidi Secondary School, expressed concern about the lack of readiness, noting that several crucial elements are yet to fall into place.
"We are working on placement, and the word from the principal is that there is no placement for now, so we are trying to place these kids. We are trying to make sure that the classes that we do have are well equipped and the number of learners is slated accordingly.".
George Kandetu, the principal of M.H. Greeff Primary School, says that even though there is a lack of space for learners, the school is ready to kick off the academic year.
He explains that they've proactively prepared by procuring school supplies in advance to ensure a smooth start.
"We are ready in terms of preplanned ideas that we have put in place. For example, at our schools from grades 1 to 2, parents prepared themselves by buying some boxes of items that they will use for us to statrt the same day. We have already started with that; as for the other grades, many parents have the materials, and the school is also in a position to provide some materials for those parents that do not have the necessary materials."
