Katima Mulilo continues to be vulnerable to flash floods, a situation compounded by inadequate infrastructure and the absence of effective drainage systems.
This deficiency hampers the ability to efficiently channel water away from public spaces and business areas, posing ongoing challenges for the community.
The good rains received over the weekend left the Katima Mulilo Open Market flooded.
The rainwater did not only affect the market but also the roads, making it difficult for mobility, especially for pedestrians, while motorists are also uncomfortable with the situation.
A vendor at the open market, Chaze Simataa, like many others using the market, is concerned that, despite paying a monthly fee to the town council, the situation of drainage at the market remains unbearable.
Simataa says the situation affects the operations of the vendors, as some of their products were soaked.
Contacted for comment, Katima Mulilo Mayor John Ntemwa sympathised with the vendors about the situation they found themselves in.
Ntemwa told nbc News that the drainage system at the market is working, but the pressure resulting from heavy rains is too much for the capacity of the drainage.
However, the situation returned to normal within 30 minutes after the rain stopped.
Ntemwa noted that a similar situation happened on Hage Geingob Drive and other roads but returned to normal after the rains.
The mayor added that Hage Geingob Drive will be rehabilitated this year with assistance from the Roads Authority to improve the situation.
