The Indian community and well-wishers in Namibia have celebrated the 75th anniversary of India's independence.

In his address, High Commissioner Mandarapu Subbarayudu emphasised the significance of Republic Day, highlighting India's remarkable progress and recent milestones in bilateral relations with Namibia.

The High Commissioner underlined India's developmental partnership with Namibia, such as providing scholarships, training, and medical equipment.

"The enduring ties between India and Namibia, anchored in solidarity, shared concerns, and mutual support, have gained further momentum in the past 12 months through high-level contacts. The first meeting of the India-Namibia Joint Commission on comprehensive review covered several areas, including trade and economic cooperation, education and capacity building, forensic science, health, biodiversity, arts and culture, defense, agriculture, infrastructure development, and, among others, bilateral trade. According to Indian official data in the first eight months of the current financial year, bilateral trade has increased by 178%, yielding the highest ever level of US$654 million, including an impressive 1,356% rise in Namibia's exports to India.

Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Jenelly Matundu expressed gratitude for India's contributions, acknowledging the strengthening of relations.

"Namibia and India enjoy a strong and vibrant partnership. The Minister of External Affairs of India demonstrated that the spectrum of cooperation between our two countries is vast. It encompasses significant areas, including time and technology, education, forensic digital development, biodiversity, renewable energy, health, counter-defenses, and security. Human resources development and employment have been two of the most dynamic phases of our bilateral partnership. I'm proud to announce that more than 1400 Namibians received training in India. You have practically contributed to the strengthening and consolidation of the close bond of friendship between our two countries and people during your tenure in Namibia.

The event, graced by National Assembly Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi and other prominent leaders, featured cultural performances showcasing India's rich heritage and tourist attractions.
