Three Swapo Party ||Kharas Regional Council office bearers are challenging the council's decision to relieve them of their duties without remuneration.

They are Lazarus Nangolo, Suzan Ndjaleka, and Taimi Amakali.

Their council membership was terminated for various reasons, including absconding from council meetings and refusing to accept nominations to serve on the council management committee.

In a letter addressed to the council's chair, Joseph Isaack, through their lawyer, Sisa Namandje, the Swapo Party council representatives demanded that the decision to terminate their membership be rescinded by ten o'clock on Thursday.

The councillors threatened to file an urgent High Court interdict challenging the council's decision, which they labelled 'hopelessly flawed both procedurally and substantively" if the council fails to reinstate them.

They argued the council's decision has no legal or statutory power in terms of Section 10 of the Regional Councils Act.

Furthermore, the councillors contended that the special meeting that saw their council membership termination was not made public as required by law.

This was despite matters discussed at the said meeting not justifying a closed-door meeting.

They argued that the governor was not informed about the meeting as stipulated by law and that the acting CRO, Benedictus Diergaardt, issued the meeting notice while he was lawfully not designated by the regional council with that authority.

The councillors are of the view that the council decision was motivated by irrelevant and ulterior motives.

They further intend to approach the High Court for a cost award.

Isaack confirmed receipt of the letter, adding that he had consulted lawyers on the matter.
