Swapo Party members in the Otjozondjupa Region say the legacy of President Hage Geingob will not be honoured if unity is not maintained.
Over the years, Swapo membership in the region has been dwindling, and factions have formed along district and regional ranks.
However, this trend was reversed following the intervention of Dr. Geingob and the top leadership of the party.
Speaking on behalf of the party members in the region, Regional Coordinator Imms Namaseb says they will ensure that the members are unified at all times.
"Exclusivity spells conflict. Inclusivity spells peace. He mentioned the one house, and that house was not only when he became President; he mentioned that house since when he was the Prime Minister of this country, he was the 1st Prime Minister of this country. He kept on mentioning that word: you will find many different tribes and many different people; you have to sow the leadership and bring them together. The President was very close to us. He said unity would unite people. And that word today makes me a different person."
The Swapo Party regional leadership held a candlelight service in honour of the late President Geingob at the party office.
The Otjiwarongo Municipality also held a vigil at the town's public park, where church leaders and gospel groups led the grieving residents into songs and a sermon.
Scores of residents sat through the event, reflecting on the life and times of Geingob.
